What does 2021 remind India of? The success of the Indian Farmers’ Protest is the major incident that India witnessed in 2021. Though the government decided to repeal the three farm laws on 19th November 2021, the farmers union demanded that the central government’s policies be farmer-friendly and ensure a Minimum Support Price. They haven’t trusted the Prime Minister’s vow and wanted him to convene a special parliament session to repeal the farm laws. Almost 500 farmers’ organizations participated in the protest under the coordination of Samyukt Kisan Morcha. The farmers didn’t retreat when they were stopped at Delhi and mass arrests took place. The protesters were so dauntless that they wanted the authorities to meet them for the discussion at the place they decide. The protests give us insights on several issues. They continued the struggle when the government agreed to meet some of their needs and tried to repress them by arresting the leaders. The Farmers’ Struggle gained public attention worldwide and the Central Government was forced to repeal the bills. Farmers are producers of food and they feed us through their hard work. Who else can dissent from the fascist government better than them?
The suicide of Baba Ram Singh as a protest against the government, the letters written in blood addressing the P. M., the intervention of the Supreme Court by staying on the laws, the support of popular icons like Pop singer Rihanna Fenty, Swedish environmentalist Greta Thunberg, etc. were crucial involvements in the Farmers’ Protest. The NDA government realized that the farmers cannot be defeated and the plans of counter-protesters too failed. Even though the protest had several martyrs, this more-than-a-year-long struggle for rights is the major achievement of 2021.
The biggest losses of 2021 are the deaths of eminent personalities namely, the politician K. R. Gauri Amma, Malayalam actors Nedumudi Venu and Rizabawa, Hindi actor Dilip Kumar, and Indian journalist Danish Siddiqui. K. R. Gauri Amma succeeded in her political career and continued in it till her death. She has left the familial bonds for her ideology and the political institution. Though Rizabawa acted in more than 150 movies and is popular among the Malayali audience, it is a harsh reality that the Malayalam film industry failed to explore his acting potential. Coming from a theatre background, he was not cast in good and variant roles in Malayalam. But his physique and body language on the screen changed the perception of the villain roles in Malayalam cinema. Nedumudi Venu was a veteran actor noted for his versatile roles in South Indian movies. The characters portrayed by Venu outlive the actor himself.
The demise of the Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui who was acclaimed for documenting the Rohingya refugee crisis strikes painfully. The dubiousness of his death continues although he was a leading journalist for Reuters. The nationalist hailers weren’t much interested in knowing the truth albeit killed by the Taliban. But people from different parts of the world who are acquainted with his works raised their voices demanding a proper elucidation on his death. The most heartrending experience of 2021 was the image of the public and the notable figures paying tribute to his death.

2021 ഓര്‍മ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് എന്തൊക്കെയാണ്?.

2021 ഓര്‍മ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് എന്തൊക്കെയാണ്?. ഒന്നാമതായി കര്‍ഷകരുടെ സമരം വിജയം തന്നെയായിരുന്നു. കര്‍ഷക വിരുദ്ധമായ നിയമങ്ങള്‍ റദ്ദാക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് നവംബര്‍ 19ന് തീരുമാനം ഉണ്ടായെങ്കിലും നിയമങ്ങള്‍ പിന്‍വലിച്ചതുകൊണ്ട് മാത്രമായില്ലെ ന്നും, കര്‍ഷകരോടുള്ള കേന്ദ്ര സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ നയങ്ങള്‍ മാറേണ്ടതുണ്ടന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടും, പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയുടെ വാക്കില്‍ വിശ്വാസമില്ലെന്നും പാര്‍ലമെന്‍റ് വഴി നിയമങ്ങള്‍ പിന്‍വലിക്കുന്നതുവരെ സമരം അവസാനിപ്പിക്കില്ലെന്ന നിലപാടായിരുന്നു സംയുക്ത കിസാന്‍ മോര്‍ച്ച സ്വീകരിച്ചത്. 2020-ല്‍ ആരംഭിച്ച സമരത്തില്‍ അഞ്ഞൂറോളം സംഘടനകള്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തിരുന്നു. ഡല്‍ഹിയിലേക്കുള്ള പ്രവേശനം തടഞ്ഞത്, മാസ് അറസ്റ്റുകള്‍ ഇതൊന്നുംതന്നെ കര്‍ഷകരെ തളര്‍ത്തിയില്ല. ഈ സമരം പല പാഠങ്ങളും നമുക്ക് തരുന്നുണ്ട്. ചര്‍ച്ചക്ക് വിളിച്ച അധികാരികളോട് ഞങ്ങള്‍ പറയുന്നിടത്തേക്ക് നിങ്ങളാണ് എത്തേണ്ടതെന്ന ധര്‍ഷട്യത്തോട് പറയാനവര്‍ക്ക് പറ്റി. കേവലമായ ചില വാഗ്ദാനങ്ങളില്‍ വഴങ്ങാതെ സമരം തുടര്‍ന്നത്. ചെറിയ ഭേദഗതികള്‍ അംഗീകരിക്കാതെ സമരത്തില്‍ ഉറച്ചുനിന്നത്. മാസ് അറസ്റ്റും നേതാക്കളുടെ അറസ്റ്റും അവരെ തളര്‍ത്തിയില്ല. പിന്നീട് ലോകശ്രദ്ധയിലേക്ക് സമരം എത്തിയെങ്കിലും അതിനെതി രെ ദേശീയതകൊണ്ട് പിടിച്ചുനില്‍ക്കാന്‍ സര്‍ക്കാറിന് കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. ഒടുവില്‍ അവരുടെ ആവശ്യങ്ങള്‍ പൂര്‍ണമായി അംഗീകരിക്കുന്ന രീതിയില്‍ അധികാരിവര്‍ഗ്ഗം മുട്ടുമടക്കുന്നത് നാം കണുന്നു. കര്‍ഷകര്‍ ഉല്‍പാദകരാണ്, നമ്മളെയെല്ലാം തീറ്റിപ്പോറ്റുന്നവര്‍. അവര്‍ ക്കല്ലാതെ ആര്‍ക്കാണ് ഇത്രയും ശക്തമായി ഫാസിസ്റ്റുകളോട് കലഹിക്കാനാവുക.
ബാബരാംസിംങിന്‍റെ പ്രതിഷേധ ആത്മഹത്യ, രക്തം കൊണ്ട് കത്തെഴുതി അയക്കല്‍, വിവാദ നിയമങ്ങള്‍ സ്റ്റേ ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടുള്ള സുപ്രീം കോടതിയുടെ ഇടപെടല്‍, പോപ് ഗായിക റിഹാനയുടെ ഗ്രേറ്റാതുംബര്‍ഗ്ഗ് തുടങ്ങിയവരുടെ പിന്തുണ യും ഇതിനെ വളരെയധികം മുന്നോട്ടു കൊണ്ടുപോയ സംഭവങ്ങളാ യിരുന്നു. പല തരത്തില്‍ ഇതിനെ തോല്‍പ്പിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങളും നിലംപരിശാക്കി എന്നത് നാം കണ്ടു. അനേകം രക്തസാക്ഷികള്‍ ഉണ്ടായെങ്കിലും ഒടുവില്‍ ഒരു വര്‍ഷത്തിലധികം നീണ്ട സമര ത്തിനൊടുവില്‍ ഉണ്ടായ ഈ വിജയം 2021-ന്‍റെ നേട്ടം തന്നെയാണ്. എത്രതന്നെ അവഗണിച്ചാലും ചവിട്ടി അരച്ചാലും അവരെ തോല്‍പ്പി ക്കാനാവില്ല എന്ന തിരിച്ചറിവ് ഒടുവില്‍ എന്‍.ഡി.എ സര്‍ക്കാറിനു ണ്ടായി.
ഗൗരിയമ്മ, നെടുമുടിവേണു, റിസബാവ, ഡാനിഷ് സിദ്ദീഖി, ദീലീപ് കുമാര്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവര്‍ ഈ വര്‍ഷത്തിന്‍റെ നഷ്ടങ്ങളാണ്. പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിനുവേണ്ടി അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ പ്രത്യയശാസ്ത്ര നിലപാടു കള്‍ക്ക് വേണ്ടി കുടുംബം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചവളാണ് ഗൗരിയമ്മ എന്ന് വായി ച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. കേരളത്തില്‍ അധികമാരും എത്തിപ്പെടാത്ത രാഷ്ട്രീയ രംഗത്തും ഏറെക്കാലം പിടിച്ചു നില്‍ക്കാനായി എന്നതും അവരുടെ വിജയമാണ്. റിസബാവ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന താരം തന്നെയാണെങ്കിലും 150-തോളം സിനിമകളില്‍ അഭിനയിച്ചുവെങ്കിലും അധികം സിനിമകളോ വലിയ റോളുകളും റിസബാവക്ക് കിട്ടിയില്ലെന്നുതന്നെ പറയണം. നാടകരംഗത്തുനിന്നും സിനിമയില്‍ എത്തിയ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ കഴിവുകളെ പൂര്‍ണമായും ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്താന്‍ മലയാള സിനിമക്കായില്ല എന്ന്മാത്രം. എന്നാല്‍ മലയാളത്തിലെ വില്ലന്‍ റോളുകളുടെ മാറ്റം നിര്‍ണയിക്കുന്നതില്‍ റിസബാവയുടെ ശരീരഭാഷക്ക് വലിയ പങ്കുവഹിക്കാന്‍ ആയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
നെടുമുടി വേണു അവതരിപ്പിച്ച കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ വൈവിധ്യം കൊണ്ട് തന്നെയാണ് അദ്ദേഹം ഏറ്റവുമധികം ശ്രദ്ധിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്. നെടുമുടിവേണുവിനേയല്ല അദ്ദേഹമവതരിപ്പിച്ച കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളേയാണ് മിക്കവാറും ആ സിനിമയില്‍ കണ്ടത്.
റോഹിന്ദ്യന്‍ അഭയാര്‍ത്ഥികള്‍ക്ക് വേണ്ടി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ച ഡാനിഷ് സിദ്ദീഖിയുടെ മരണം ഏറെ വേദനാകരം കൂടിയായിരുന്നു. റോയിട്ടേഴ്സിന്‍റെ ഭാഗമായിരുന്നിട്ടുകൂടി അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ മരണ ത്തില്‍/ അതിന്‍റെ കാരണങ്ങളില്‍ ദുരൂഹത അവശേഷിക്കുകയാണ്. താലിബാനാല്‍ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടിട്ട്പോലും ദേശീയതയുടെ കൊണ്ടാട്ട ക്കാര്‍ക്കിടയില്‍ വലിയ താല്പര്യമുണ്ടാവില്ല. പക്ഷെ, ലോകത്തിലെ വിവിധ ഇടങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ചറിയുന്നവര്‍ ഇതിനോട് പ്രതികരിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ സാധാരണ മനുഷ്യരും, വ്യത്യസ്ത സാംസ്കാരിക പ്രവര്‍ത്തകരും ഒരുപോലെ ഡാനിഷ് സിദ്ദീഖിയുടെ മരണത്തില്‍ ദുഃഖം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയത് 2021ലെ വേദനാജനകമായ അനുഭവമായിരുന്നു.
